Lily Vance

University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

Lily Vance is a twenty-two year old actress and soprano from Durham, North Carolina. Theatrical and musical performance have always been a part of her life, having most recently performed as Donna Elvira from Don Giovanni and Maureen in Rent, both at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC). Throughout her current studies at Chapel Hill, Lily has integrated herself into various performance opportunities on campus. She has performed with UNC Opera and multiple student theatre groups on campus--including Company Carolina, Pauper Players, and Kenan Theatre Company--as well as been on the producing side of shows as a director, music director, choreographer, and dramaturge. In May 2023, Lily graduated with a B.A. in Vocal Performance, as well as a B.A. in Dramatic Art and a minor in Religious Studies. Since graduating, she has continued to perform and direct in the North Carolina Triangle area with Stone Soup Theatre Co., The Durham Savoyards, and Center Theater Company.

Growing up
in the Theatre

Growing up in a household of six other artistic family members meant it wasn't long before I caught the theatre bug. I started performing at the age of five when I began tap lessons and danced in annual recitals for twelve years. In those twelve years, I was a part of the North Carolina Youth Tap Ensemble for nine, alongside my three sisters. We would travel the state and the country performing in schools and theatres, educating audiences on the history of tap dance. In middle school I discovered my school's drama club, and thus began my dream to be on Broadway. Despite the club being geared towards outcasts at my small parochial school, I joined, debuting my role as Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof at age fourteen (fake beard and all). In high school I stuck with theatre, spending hours upon hours after school in rehearsals for student plays and musicals. I couldn't get enough of it--the process of preparing lines, the behind-the-scenes character work, the reward of applause, the friendships I formed. I began taking voice lesson in high school as well, dreaming of the BFA programs I would be accepted into. When senior year came around, I was accepted into the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and I could not be more grateful towards eighteen year old me for choosing Chapel Hill to study at. While in college, I have performed in numerous student productions, been a part of Company Carolina's executive board, directed two student shows, and discovered a new love for opera and classical music--performing in four student operas. Having now graduated in May 2023 with a B.A. in Music, B.A. in Dramatic Art, and a minor in Religious Studies, I look forward to furthering my acting studies in a masters program. I have always loved performing, whether it be in front of hundreds of strangers or in my living room, and I have my art-filled childhood and family to thank for this profound love and support for theatre.
